communication headset
of Russian cosmonaut Sergey Volkov for the rescue spacesuit Sokol KV-2. The headset is flown in space for 181 days since September 02, 2015 until March 02, 2016 and used by Sergey Volkov during ISS-45/46 mission (his third space flight). Sergey used this headset while wearing the Sokol KV-2 spacesuit for lifting-off and descent onboard Soyuz TMA-18M.
Design features.
This headset is intended to be used with spacesuits of both the Sokol (inside the Soyuz spacecraft) and Orlan (for extra-vehicular activity) family, and has a universal connector compatible with the above-mentioned spacesuits. The model is SHL-10SA. The headset number is 1230304. It's size 2. The orange tag inside the headset also has the initials VSA standing for the cosmonaut Volkov Sergey Alexandrovich.
Personality.
Sergey Volkov is the first Russian cosmonaut of the second generation. His father cosmonaut Alexander Volkov flew onboard space stations Salyut-7 and MIR, now retired. During his first space mission Sergey Volkov met the first American second generation astronaut Richard Garriott. They landed together. Commander of the ISS-17 mission at the age of 35, Sergey Volkov was the youngest person to command the ISS in its history. Like his father, Sergey accomplished 3 space flights. Sergey spent almost 548 days in space. He made 4 spacewalks of the total duration of over than 23 hours. Titled as the Hero of Russia, Sergey Volkov has many awards. He left the cosmonauts team in 2017.
