Civil war token NGC MS 63 struck in silver 180/341f

Description

Civil war token struck in silver, patriotic type 180/341f, NGC MS63, R-9. The two dies show the characteristic areas that are not fully struck up, both from weakness in the dies, as well as the thickest parts of the design being opposite one another without material enough to be struck up into the dies. Some standard references indicate that "only when combined with reverse 430 is the full legend visible" (Bower 3rd Ed. "A GUIDE BOOK OF CIVIL WAR TOKENS}. The legend above the rider shows just a few of the letters on the right end. It should have read "HERO OF PEA RIDGE". Both sides of the token are toned more the gray shades shown in some of the photos with some blues, and yellow highlights showing in some light. The overall surfaces are nice and this very rare silver struck token is attractive in toned colors.
