    Description

    Patriotic Civil War Token
    Fuld  155/431a (copper)     R-4     AU
    This token was distributed by Henry Higgins of Mishawaka, Indiana.  Today, his tokens are affectionately called "Indiana primitives" due to his amateur engraving skills and the creative techniques that he used to manufacture some of his tokens.  This token advises the public to place its own value on the token perhaps as an effort to avoid potential legal problems with the Federal government.  Please could be misspelled simply because Mr. Higgins did not leave enough room on the token for the full spelling of the word.  As was the case with most Civil War tokens, its intended value was one cent.
    This is a nice lightly circulated specimen that is well struck for the variety.  The planchet is slightly dished as made.
