    Description:
    A good extremely fine or better Civil War copper token. The token represents Straight’s Elephantine Shoe Store card or redeemable token and was issued in 1863. The obverse of the token shows an elephant marching while wearing boots on all four legs. The elephant is surrounded with the legend "STRAIGHT’S ELEPHANTINE SHOE STORE; BROADWAY; 1863". The elephant has a blanket on its back with the number 398 on it. The reverse of the token has the legend "**REDEEMABLE AT MY SHOE STORE**" along the edge with the legend "398; BROADWAY; ALBANY; N.Y." in the center. The token has a plain edge. It weighs ~3 gm and is ~19.5 mm in diameter. A great looking and very interesting Civil War store token to add to your collection.
